About Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge

viewing the exhibits at the learning center and the automobile tour. First of all I cannot say enough about our guide (Jennifer?) who was outgoing, friendly, knowledgeable, and did a wonderful job. She would see things that the ten of us on the tour had not even noticed and would patiently answer questions, explain what we were seeing, and went out of her way to teach and help us explore the swamp. We had explored a pretty good area when she said, "OH! We have already been out over an hour and need to start back" and I was ready to argue w/ her thinking it had only been a few minutes but it had been well over an hour it just seemed like half that time we were enjoying ourselves so much. Unfortunately, the day we chose for the tour was a bit cold and windy so there was little nature out and about but what was there our guide made sure we noticed. She also gave a nice history lesson of the swamp and particularly that area of the swamp and impressed many of us who are history buffs or engineers as to how much she knew. I would definitely do the tour again but find a day a bit warmer for more "nature". The museum/learning center was very nice w/ great exhibits about the swamp and docents who were more than happy to answer questions. We also enjoyed the driving tour that looped around a portion of the swamp and had several areas to pull off and admire the natural beauty of the area (& yes! see an alligator...albeit a small one, but still....) This is a great learning experience for any age and something of an adventure and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
