Sweetwater Creek State Park

What a great way to be welcomed to Atlanta, then a beautiful state park just outside of the city. I had gone here on the recommendation of my airbnb host, and it sure did not disappoint. It is a $5 entry fee, but it is going to preserve a wonderful piece of nature. About Sweetwater Creek State Park

What a great way to be welcomed to Atlanta, then a beautiful state park just outside of the city. I had gone here on the recommendation of my airbnb host, and it sure did not disappoint. It is a $5 entry fee, but it is going to preserve a wonderful piece of nature. I�m not familiar with the area, and when the map said �river walk� I figured it would be a nice meandering river with some cool views. Well I was wrong! The river walk is moderately challenging, but offers some great views and a little bit of climbing over rocks. About halfway along the path there is the remnants of a former mill, which gives a great segue to the history of the area and of course cool pictures. There are about three main areas of rapids, with the most spectacular being at the end with a rocky overlook. Great place to stop, grab some water and admire the beauty of nature. I took the hill path back (white markers) which gave a couple more views through the trees of the river and the far bank. The trails were well maintained and it was the perfect amount of hike that I was looking for. Hoping that I can make it back soon!
