About Gunson Guiding & Outfitting (Coal River Outfitters)

GGO (formerly Coal River Outfitters) is owned and operated by Jake and Cecilia Gunson. We first started outfitting in 2001, with an archery-only whitetail outfit, in Manitoba. After several years of operating in Manitoba, we decided to move on to different opportunities; Jake as an Environmental Scientist, Cecilia as an Occupational Therapist. But it didn't work; we could not get the guide/outfitting bug out of our system. In 2011 we decided it was time to get back to the life that we love. We started hunting for a remote wilderness guide-territory, with top quality game. What we found was a virtually inaccessiable area that consistently produces some of the best Canadian Moose and Stone Sheep in the country. What more could we want, but perhaps some goats, caribou, elk and bear. In the end, we have small, family run business, that offers remote wilderness hunts for a variety of top quality game.
