Alberta's premier destination for high quality whitetail and mule deer hunting. We specialize in early season bow hunts for trophy mule deer. There is NOTHING that compares to a spot and stalk bowhunt for big mule deer. Fast paced and action packed, a mule deer hunt is an adventure without compare. Sage Valley Outfitting got it's start in 2012. The outfitter, Jay Watts has been guiding professionally since 2001, and has guided different species in several western states and provinces. From elk in southern Idaho to Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep in northern Alberta. His passion is deer - and he has been guiding mule deer and whitetail hunters in southern Alberta since 2004. The zones he has been hunting in have been his focus, and in the last 10 years, he has become very familiar with the deer populations, trophy areas and has built an excellent relationship with the local landowners. As a result Sage Valley has exclusive access to over 30,000 acres of prime deer habitat, including many miles of the famous red deer river valley. We hunt in some of the finest deer habitat anywhere; from the deep coulees and breathtaking badlands of the river valley, to lush agricultural fields, to sage flats and barren (upon first sight) cattle pasture - our area has some of the greatest trophy potential anywhere. Your hunt will begin at the Calgary International Airport, where the outfitter will meet you upon arrival, gather your gear, and head out towards the hunting unit (with a brief stop for licenses and gear as necessary). If you are hunting the southern unit, expect a 1 to 1-1/2 hour drive from the city, after which you will arrive at the charming home where you will spend evenings in comfort. If you are hunting the northern zone, the drive is a little longer (about two hours) through some beautiful badlands scenery. In the north camp, we stay in a small, but cozy lodge located on the southern shores of Fox Lake. Hunts begin early in the morning, whee we will attempt to locate bucks we have already found during our intensive preseason scouting. We normally try to locate the bucks from the truck, going on foot once we've found a deer that requires a closer look. Boats are occasionally used for hunts along the river. To ensure comfortable accommodations and maximum opportunity, we take a maximum of four clients per week - with one guide for every two hunters. One guide per client can be arranged ahead of time for an additional guide fee.
